July newsletter 2023

In recognition of World Hepatitis Day on Friday 28th July, our newsletter this month includes a special feature on Cheshire and Merseyside ODN and the work they are doing to tackle the disease using our Pathway solution.

World Hepatitis Day

Friday 28 July marked World Hepatitis Day, raising awareness around the globe of the burden of viral hepatitis, and working to influence real change.

The NHS England Hepatitis C (HCV) Elimination Programme is working to eliminate Hepatitis C as a major public health issue in England ahead of the World Health Organisation (WHO) goal of 2030, and we’re proud to be supporting them with our Pathway solution.

In recognition of World Hepatitis Day, we’re sharing the story of how primary care is playing a vital role in Hepatitis C elimination and linking you to tools and resources for both healthcare teams and patients.

Between each of those numbers there’s a life that is valued, so they need to be found and they need to be treated.

The role of primary care in Hepatitis C elimination

Primary care has a vital role to play in the elimination of Hepatitis C - from supporting the early detection of at-risk patients to effectively managing the care of those in the early stages of liver disease. Using the latest medications, more than 90% of people with Hepatitis C may be cured.

Working alongside NHS England and MSD, we’re enabling the identification of at-risk patients hidden within primary care using Pathway. Empowering Cheshire and Merseyside Operational Delivery Network (ODN) to search primary care data for coded Hepatitis C risk factors in patient records has already enabled two patients living with Hepatitis C to start life-saving treatment for the first time.

Pathway is available now in Cheshire & Merseyside ODN and Greater Manchester ODN, with a wider rollout planned in the coming months.

Pathway, powered by EMIS-X

Available as part of the EMIS-X release later this year, Pathway uses clinical intelligence to identify cohorts of at-risk patients for intervention and supports healthcare teams to refer these patients onto the appropriate care pathway.

Backed by data sharing agreements, we’re making it easy for primary care teams to share relevant patient information with the organisations best placed to deliver care, helping to improve both patient experience and patient outcomes.

GP Practices in Wales share their thoughts on July’s EMIS Web webinars

This month we’ve been shining a light on EMIS Web in Wales during our scheduled webinars, ‘Optimising Patient Care with EMIS Web’, which culminated on the 27th July. Thank you for your attendance – we’ve had a lot of very positive comments – here’s a handful from our current customers:

“I’ve learnt a lot (I feel I should already know) from your demo today!”

“I watched your presentation today which was really useful. We're already an EMIS practice but there were a couple of things we don't do which will make a big difference and I've noted these down.”

“We found the demo educational and informative as we've found some new functionality.”

Some of the key topics we covered included: how EMIS Web assists cluster working, service flexibilities, concepts and protocols, and a tour around the software.

Benefit from new EMIS-X functionality with Digital Triage
This new feature within Local Services is currently in pilot. It ensures patients visiting a GP’s website are directed to the most suitable care for non-urgent or general health queries.

Digital Triage gives patients the option to complete an assessment, determining whether the patient can be referred to a Pharmacy. We're actively engaging with our pilot sites to receive feedback and make improvements before further roll out.
