News | EMIS-X – delivering innovation through evolution

With EMIS-X® we’re transforming our systems to enhance your day-to-day experience, and improve patient interactions and outcomes in a way that makes your transition from EMIS Web as smooth as possible.

We were recently invited to give an update on EMIS-X at the NHS Tech Innovation Framework Expo 2023, where we updated ICSs on the latest with the EMIS-X development journey. We outlined what this will mean for our customers in the future - with end users set to benefit from new EMIS-X functionality as soon as this year. This article shares the same messaging so that you’re up to date too.

Many of our customers are already benefiting from the technological advances that we can deliver through EMIS-X: in 2020 we launched our powerful EMIS-X Analytics suite, providing actionable insights to help drive efficiency and process improvement. Last year, new features powered by EMIS-X technology were introduced to EMIS Web, such as Local Services to allow digital triage and patient referral into local care services. This year we’re taking EMIS-X to the next level in primary care with the introduction of an EMIS-X application that can be launched from EMIS Web.

GP practices benefiting from EMIS-X in live pilot

EMIS-X, which is in pilot now, will introduce clinical views, side-by-side document viewing, our new proactive care tool, Pathway, as well as refreshed instant messaging and integration with EMIS Now (our online service portal).

Taking an evolutionary approach to the deployment of EMIS-X, with no big bang, means that EMIS Web users will be able to continue using their current system but will benefit from exciting enhancements as soon as they’re ready.

A TIF compliant solution in 2024

Next year you’ll also be able to access EMIS-X independently from EMIS Web via a browser on any device. This will mean you can utilise all the core primary care capabilities required by the NHS Technology Innovation Framework, including;

patient information maintenance
appointments management
recording consultations
prescribing
referral management
resource management.

EMIS-X will offer redefined, efficient, workflows centred around user insights and today’s ways of working, providing improved usability and making it easier to find the information you need.

We will continue to expand the scope and depth of EMIS-X capabilities over the next few years. The evolutionary approach also means that all of your existing sharing agreements will remain in place, so there’ll be no need to set up new processes in order to work with your PCN and community colleagues if you already have these in place.

Integrated clinical solutions to support ICBs

Our evolution will continue beyond primary care into a full suite of integrated clinical applications that will be scalable, responsive, and interoperable – supporting joined-up, safer, care across healthcare settings.
