How to get your GP practice AI ready

AI-enabled tools such as ambient scribing are gaining momentum in primary care — but adopting them safely and in line with national expectations is essential.

This upcoming webinar provides a practical walkthrough of what GP practices across England and Wales need to do before bringing AI into everyday clinical use.

Taking place on Wednesday 13 May, 12:30 – 13:30, the session explores:

  • AI guidance from NHS England and NHS Wales
  • Clinical safety and governance requirements
  • Data protection and DPIAs
  • What good AI implementation looks like in real-world practice.

Save time dispensing repeat prescriptions with Medicines Manager

Managing repeat prescriptions between the pharmacy and GP surgery can be time-consuming, manual and open to delays.

Medicines Manager helps simplify the process by allowing you to electronically add repeat medication requests directly into the EMIS Web® GP workflow, all from within ProScript Connect®.

With Medicines Manager you can:

  • Cut down manual data entry and paperwork
  • Reduce reliance on printing, emails and phone calls with EMIS Web GP surgeries
  • Free up more time to focus on patient care

Medicines Manager works seamlessly with ProScript Connect to help your pharmacy work smarter, not harder.

Ensuring data integrity in AI: introducing EMIS Scribe — Watch the recording

Our recent webinar explored how EMIS Scribe — the first seamless, AI‑powered ambient scribe for EMIS‑X® and EMIS Web® — helps protect data integrity as AVT and large language models become more common in clinical workflows.

Catch up with the recording to see how EMIS Scribe:

  • Safeguards data integrity with built‑in governance
  • Produces structured notes with SNOMED‑CT coding
  • Improves record quality with embedded safety checks
  • Delivers higher accuracy than standalone AVT tools

Save time and reduce errors with EMIS-X and EMIS Web

As GPs, we know how much time can be spent retyping information and the risk that comes with incorrect data entry. In this short video, Dr. Krishna Vakharia, Chief Medical Officer at Optum and an NHS GP, shares how EMIS-X® makes it easier to copy and paste data straight into EMIS Web®.

From consultations and investigations to blood results and referral details, you can pull everything together quickly and accurately — without relying on memory or duplicating work.

Improved original pack dispensing with ProScript Connect

Original pack dispensing (OPD) has been available to ProScript Connect® customers across the UK since last year, supporting legislation in England that allows pharmacists to apply professional judgement when dispensing eligible prescriptions.

Since launch, we’ve enhanced OPD to better support day‑to‑day workflows. Clearer indicators and timely automated prompts make it clear when a medicine can be safely dispensed as an original pack, reducing guesswork and unnecessary handling.

“The OPD workflow works really well. The automatic prompts appear exactly when needed, so nothing gets missed.”
- Ken Lee, Pharmacist and Branch Manager at Garretts Pharmacy

By removing guesswork at the point of supply, OPD helps pharmacy teams dispense safely, efficiently and with confidence.

Shaping the future of clinical AI: Why integrated AVT is key to data integrity

Ambient voice technology has the potential to reduce documentation time during GP consultations — but its success depends on how closely it aligns with the clinical system.

In our latest blog, we explore why ambient AI must support existing GP workflows to protect data integrity, enable accurate coding and maintain trusted patient records. When voice technology fits naturally into day‑to‑day practice, it helps clinicians focus on patients rather than screens.

Feature focus: document management in EMIS-X

In the second month of our feature focus series, we’re continuing to highlight valuable features across our systems that help simplify everyday tasks, save time and support better patient care.  This month, we’re placing the spotlight on document management.

GP practices handle a huge volume of inbound documents every week — from discharge summaries and referral responses to lab results. With EMIS‑X®, document management is designed to work alongside your workflow, not against it.

Using document management, you can:

  • View documents side‑by‑side with the patient record and consultation using the companion app
  • Attach and edit documents without leaving the care record
  • Reduce clicks, screen‑switching and cognitive load

By keeping documents and clinical information visible at the same time, EMIS‑X helps busy practices work faster, stay focused and save valuable time every week.

How do we turn the ambition of neighbourhood health into everyday reality?

Our latest blog, ‘reimagining neighbourhood health’, reflects on a national simulation that brought together leaders and teams to explore what truly enables neighbourhood working to succeed. The experience highlighted that lasting transformation depends as much on culture, confidence and collaboration as it does on technology.

Participants saw first‑hand how shifting away from silos, embedding citizens as active partners and adapting processes around real need can unlock better outcomes for communities. The challenge now is translation — moving from insight to action and from simulation into sustained practice.

Driving health equity with the Locality Improvement Framework

By combining population health analytics with strong local collaboration, Staffordshire and Stoke‑on‑Trent ICB is delivering targeted interventions to reduce health inequalities. Early obesity prevention work in Tamworth is already improving outcomes and generating projected annual savings of £49k.
