Feature focus: bulk signing

In this new feature focus series, we’ll be highlighting valuable features across our systems that help simplify everyday tasks, save time and support better patient care.

Bulk signing in EMIS Web lets you review and approve multiple prescriptions in a single workflow. This feature can save valuable clinical time and reduce admin workload, with measures to maintain clinical safety.

Why use bulk signing?

  • More time for patient care: small time savings each day quickly add up across a busy week.
  • Maintain clinical safety: only allows for low-risk medications to be signed, and flags when contraindications may occur.

Addressing waiting list health inequalities

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust used PHM Pathfinder Analytics to tackle a critical challenge — patients deteriorating while waiting for elective care, with the greatest risk falling on already underserved groups.

By analysing data from over 40,000 patients on elective waiting lists, the Trust identified those most likely to deteriorate, including people with a learning disability who were four times more likely to need emergency care while waiting. This insight enabled targeted, proactive support for the patients who needed it most.

The result was safer waiting lists, fewer emergency admissions and a more equitable approach to elective care across the system.
