Persistent insomnia affects approximately 10% of the adult population and is a risk factor for several mental and physical health problems, particularly depression and cardiometabolic disease. The primary aim of this trial is to establish in a real world setting, whether short-term treatment of Chloral Hydrate is effective in patients with severe insomnia which is interfering with normal daily life and where other therapies (behavioural and pharmacologic) have failed. Secondary objectives will assess safety, tolerability, identification of baseline characteristics, changes in quality of life and self-reported sleep, within a real world setting.
