On a remote Scottish island, the team at Islay Pharmacy balance paper prescriptions, seasonal tourist demand and the pressures of running a busy community pharmacy. ProScript Connect® has taken the pressure off — making it easier for the team to manage their workload and focus on patient care. With everything visible on one screen, the team now trains faster, works smarter and dispenses with confidence.

With over 30 years of experience, Superintendent Pharmacist and owner Lisa Simpson leads Islay Pharmacy in serving around 4,000 patients on the Scottish Isle of Islay — a number that can rise sharply during tourist season.

Working on the rural and remote Isle of Islay can bring unique challenges. The team regularly handle emergency supplies for visitors without their usual medication, while still relying on paper prescriptions — a process that adds time and complexity to dispensing and record-keeping.

Lisa also faces the operational demands of running a small team, training new staff and ensuring safe and accurate dispensing — all while managing a wide range of NHS and private services, including the Pharmacy First Scotland service and urgent care provisions.

We do about 3,500 to 4,000 items a month. With no electronic prescriptions in Scotland yet, we’re still working with paper, which brings its own set of challenges.”

Streamlining pharmacy tasks with one simple screen

Since switching to ProScript Connect, Lisa and her team have found it easier to stay on top of daily tasks. With all essential information visible on a single screen, there’s no need to switch between tabs or dig through paperwork. The simple, intuitive layout also made it much easier to train new staff — one dispenser was able to pick it up immediately, despite having no prior experience in the pharmacy sector.

Most importantly, the system keeps comprehensive patient records in one place. Whether it’s a counselling note, an incident report or an emergency supply for a tourist, everything is stored clearly and accessibly — a game-changer in a location where emergency supplies are a daily reality.

I’ve used a lot of systems over the years. ProScript Connect stood out because of its clarity and functionality. Everything is on one screen — it’s easy to teach, easy to use and easy to trust.”

Track prescription changes with complete confidence

With ProScript Connect, daily tasks like labelling, processing prescriptions and managing records have become faster and more efficient. “It’s more accurate, it saves time, and things don’t get forgotten” commented Lisa. She and her team can now track exactly who made changes to a prescription, add notes and manage medication histories with ease — giving them greater confidence in the safety and accuracy of every item dispensed. “It’s much safer” she noted. “You can stop and start drugs, add notes and see exactly who did what.”

Choose a system that works anywhere, anytime

Lisa’s experience shows that even in the most remote settings, the right pharmacy system can make a real difference. With ProScript Connect, she’s been able to simplify workflows, improve safety and support her team more effectively — all while continuing to deliver high-quality care to her community.

If you’re thinking about using ProScript Connect then I say go for it. It’s very easy to use, very logical and very transparent. There are plenty of training resources, and it’s easy to find what you’re looking for.”
