EMIS’s Emergency Department (ED) system has become the first system accredited by NHS Digital to support direct electronic appointment booking from 111.
This will support the NHS Long Term Plan for the 111 service to become the ‘first line of defence’ for the urgent and emergency care system. It will help the NHS deal with the upcoming winter pressures – 111 call handlers will be able to send referral appointments directly into scheduled appointments within an ED, Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) or Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) environment. This is a first of type for NHS 111 and EMIS.
The functionality is part of the newly released Symphony, which was available to EMIS customers from the end of September 2020. As well as integration with 111, Symphony has been designed with same day emergency care (SDEC) in mind, particularly to enable improved workflows and help manage social distancing.
EMIS CEO, said: “EMIS’s purpose is to enable better care through technology innovation. Interoperability of systems is vital for the healthcare industry to drive increased efficiencies for the NHS, and we’re delighted to have released this functionality for our ED customers.”
