“Digital is at the forefront of efficient healthcare delivery”

The team at Folkestone, Hythe & Rural PCN have embraced technology in helping them to transform the way they deliver services. Established in 2019, this network of 7 practices across the South Kent coast have worked closely to create new care pathways for their population of around 48,000 patients.
“The drive for the NHS is to encourage practices to club together, to benefit from economies of scale, to think differently about how we deliver services – and I think that our PCN has really embraced that, particularly around digital transformation”, commented Stephen Weller, Managing Business Partner at New Lyminge Surgery.
Underpinned by PCN Hub
Using EMIS Web® PCN Hub has allowed the team at Folkestone, Hythe & Rural to create a centralised hub for Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) practitioners, accessed via single sign on. This new model has increased service capacity to relieve pressure from stretched GPs, and is enabling patients to be seen more quickly by an appropriate clinician.
We’ve really changed the way that our model of accessing healthcare works - we can efficiently get patients to the right person based on their need.”
Enhancing joined up patient care
What’s more, collaborating with us on both the development and pilot of Consultation Write Back functionality means that these consultations are now automatically written back into the native GP record in seconds, making joined-up shared care records a reality, and reducing the administrative burden.
We’ve managed to establish a network of roles working within a single instance of EMIS Web that allows a really simplistic way of sharing capacity across 7 practices.”
Reimagining PCN delivery
“I think digital is at the forefront of efficient healthcare delivery”, says Digital Transformation Manager, Andy Gove, who has been leading the PCN on their journey to reimagine services. Evolving the way they work and moving to a PCN Hub model has allowed this team to share resources and expertise across their locality, increasing clinical capacity to enable better patient care.
It feels like we’ve genuinely made a change in how services are delivered, and for the better.”
