It’s now easier for healthcare teams in urgent care settings to safeguard vulnerable children and young people thanks to integration between CP-IS and EMIS Web’s Patient Tracking module.

CP-IS is a national programme linking IT systems across health and social care, helping teams to share information securely and better protect society's most vulnerable children.

This seamless integration in EMIS Web® means that when a person under the age of 18 is registered at an unscheduled care setting, such as a minor injury unity (MIU) or urgent treatment centre (UTC), the system will automatically check to see if they are a Looked After Child or on a Child Protection Plan, and alert the attending clinician accordingly. If a child is flagged as potentially at risk, the healthcare team are able to access details of the child’s previous 25 visits to unscheduled care settings in England, and the social care team is automatically notified.

By enabling a more complete picture of children's interactions with health and social care services, healthcare professionals are supported to provide better care and earlier interventions for vulnerable and at-risk children. With the functionality in EMIS Web to automatically check each child, without the need to log in to separate systems, healthcare teams can save time and ensure nothing is missed.

Early adopters piloting the new functionality say it will save them time and help them improve care for vulnerable children. Jason Broadley, unit matron at Yate Minor Injuries Unit which is run by not-for-profit social enterprise Sirona care & health, said, “The functionality is really straightforward and easy to use, and it's going to make a big difference for our clinicians. It saves time, but most importantly it gives them the information they need within EMIS Web to quickly help children and pregnant women who are most at risk.”

Haidar Samiei, our clinical director and consultant in emergency medicine at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, explains, “The seamless integration of CP-IS in EMIS Web Patient Tracking will have a huge impact for urgent care clinicians and the patients we treat. Having all the information right there in front of us, without needing to login to other systems, makes it easier to instantly identify vulnerable and at-risk children – supporting informed decisions and better, safer care.”
