Connect Physical Health provides physiotherapy, a telephone advice service and triage service to one million NHS patients across England using EMIS Web® to provide innovative, joined-up care. The service aims to treat patients within 48 hours in the community and avoid unnecessary referrals to secondary care.
Using record sharing with EMIS Web, physiotherapists, specialist GPs and consultants in sports and exercise medicine have dramatically reduced administration, freeing up more time for patient care, and have developed a bespoke, integrated community service.
Mark Philpott, head of operations (community services) at Connect Physical Health says: “EMIS Web has made patient management much more efficient and speeded up onward referrals. Because we have a fully integrated record system, we are able to maintain and manage accurate records throughout the patient journey. We have been able to reduce the administration time for processing patients from one and a half hours per patient to under 40 minutes as a direct result of developing integrated care pathways.”

Dr Graeme Wilkes, consultant in sports and exercise medicine at Connect Physical Health said: “Electronic document management with EMIS Web means that we are able to send out letters to GPs within 24 hours. Before, it took up to 10 days.”
Improved patient care
Rather than spending 20 minutes after every clinic dictating and checking letters, Dr Wilkes spends five minutes on electronic discharges using a bespoke letter template developed with us, freeing up more of his time to spend with patients.
Mobile working
Record sharing with EMIS Web also means that NHS healthcare professionals - working across multiple sites - can access and contribute to the patient record wherever they are, at more than 40 locations around the UK.
