Building effective neighbourhoods: from theory into practice
Wednesday 10 June · 15:00 – 15:40

Neighbourhood health Learning Theatre

Neighbourhood working is a national ambition, yet across England teams still face uncertainty about how to form neighbourhoods, how to work together across sectors, and how to turn vision into reality.

This 40-minute panel session brings together leaders from general practice, community services, pharmacy and system-based leadership to discuss what effective neighbourhoods look like in practice, grounded in real-world experience.

Drawing on insights from the Manchester neighbourhood simulation and the lived experience of frontline teams, the session will explore:

• how neighbourhoods actually form: cultural shifts, system conditions and practical barriers
• using data for neighbourhood-level planning, strategic commissioning and identifying population groups
• turning insight into action through digital pathways, such as referring obesity cohorts into pharmacy
• how neighbourhood teams access the information they need to safely pick up care
• ensuring money flows correctly across organisations when services shift
• making best use of resources and capacity, including routing patients to the right service first time
• the role of technology as an enabler of neighbourhood working.
