From Monday 1 September, all GP practices in England were provided access to EMIS-X® via a web browser. This is the next step on our EMIS-X journey, which enables users to access EMIS-X independently from EMIS Web®, via a browser on PCs, laptops and tablets.

Initially, this will give users a read-only view of patient data and appointments, which can support business continuity. Users can also continue to access the EMIS-X companion app, launched from within EMIS Web.

Being able to access EMIS-X through a browser gives practices a flexible and reliable way to get to the information they need, when they need it."

Dr Krishna Vakharia

Chief Medical Officer, Optum UK

Write and edit functionality will be added to the browser over time, as well as features such as automation, intelligence and configurable clinical decision support. This will help teams to work more efficiently and deliver even better care no matter where they’re located.

If the local internet goes down, staff can simply switch to a mobile or tablet with a data connection and continue using EMIS-X via their usual browser. It means they can continue supporting patients and keep the practice running smoothly, without disruption.”

Dr Krishna Vakharia

Chief Medical Officer, Optum UK

In July EMIS-X achieved technical compliance with NHS England’s Technology Innovation Framework (TIF) and this enhanced functionality will go in to pilot later this year.

For further information and resources on EMIS-X® are available at the Optum Help Centre.
