Rising demand and growing expectations
Ashbourne pharmacy, part of the Ascent Group, is one of around 50 sites dispensing close to 10,000 items every month while delivering a wide range of NHS services. With sustained high workload, frequent interruptions and growing service expectations, the team faced increasing pressure to maintain accuracy and keep pace.
“Once you start reaching over 8,000 or 9,000 items, it’s quite overwhelming”, commented Pharmacist Daniel Nicholls.
Alongside dispensing, the team at Ashbourne Pharmacy are also responsible for managing a broad range of services including New Medicines Service consultations, Pharmacy First and various private offerings — stretching capacity even further. Manual checking and frequent interruptions added to the strain of maintaining accuracy.

ScriptCheck helped standardise the script checking process, enabling the team to work quickly and confidently. With integrated barcode scanning, it removed uncertainty and supported accuracy at every stage of the dispensing process.

More time for services and meaningful patient interactions
ScriptCheck helped free Daniel from the dispensing bench, giving him valuable time to focus on patients and deliver essential services. “You can actually go around the counter and speak to patients… you don’t get the chance when you’re stuck checking prescriptions in one spot all day.”
This additional time made it possible for Ashbourne Pharmacy to offer more services. Daniel credits ScriptCheck as one of the reasons they could keep up with this increased demand.
