Earlier this year, EMIS was selected as a technology partner to support Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) in delivering the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) in Wales.

We’re now delighted to confirm the successful testing of EPS at two ProScript Connect sites in South Wales — Nantymoel and Ogmore Vale pharmacies. Gareth Rowe, Managing Director of both pharmacies, shared his thoughts:

“I manage two pharmacies about a mile apart in the Ogmore Valley, South Wales, both of which are using ProScript Connect to support EPS. The transition will be a learning experience for all of us, but I’m glad to be involved early. My goal is to be fully prepared and up to speed by the time we officially go live'

This new era of dispensing will allow prescriptions across Wales to be processed without the need for the green paper prescription form, saving valuable clinical time for many pharmacists.

Rowe added: ‘Currently, paper prescriptions need to be taken from the surgery to the pharmacy, which can be time-consuming. I’m hopeful that the introduction of EPS across Wales will reduce the waiting time for signed scripts, freeing up more time for service delivery.”

At the start of EMIS’ testing process, Jenny Pugh-Jones, EPS Programme Oversight Chair in Wales, said: “Collaboration is key to successful delivery, so we are incredibly pleased to work in partnership with EMIS to enable electronic prescribing in Wales and we welcome them as the latest pharmacy system supplier to reach this stage.“

Our EMIS Web team is supporting the EPS rollout across GP surgeries in Wales. Starting in January 2025, ProScript Connect users will be able to start readiness activities for EPS, should they wish.

We’re committed to supporting our customers throughout this journey and are excited to help deliver a smoother, more efficient prescription process for clinicians, pharmacies and patients across Wales.
