Child Protection Information Sharing

Features and benefits

  • Provides access to CP-IS register
  • Alerts clinicians instantly
  • Full audit trail
  • Improves safety for children
  • Quickly identifies and flags children at risk
  • Improves communication between healthcare settings

The Child Protection Information Sharing (CP-IS) will improve the way health services work together to protect vulnerable children.

With the national drive towards joined up care between social services and the NHS, CP-IS is making that a reality by integrating systems in emergency departments and social care settings.

CP-IS is a national (NHS England) system that enables connectivity between local authority services and our emergency care solution, Symphony. By integrating CP-IS into Symphony, clinicians are able to quickly identify vulnerable children who attend A&E, informing care and improving patient safety.

How does it work?

Every patient under the age of 19 registering in Urgent & Emergency Care will be checked against the CP-IS national register. If they are on the register at the time of the attendance this will be flagged within Symphony to the clinician for viewing. A full audit trail is kept of who accesses the child register information.

What are the benefits?

  • Improved patient care and safety for children.
  • Provides clinicians with key child protection information - clinicians in A&E will be able to quickly identify if a child has a protection plan (CPP) or is a looked after child (LAC).
  • Clinicians are able to see how often a child has attended for emergency treatment, improving safety for children in ED.
