It’s fair to say 2020 has been a crazy year for everyone, not least for all for those working on the front line. This year more than ever before, we’ve been immensely proud to work alongside our customers to support the delivery of care to those in need.
Our team have been sharing their gratitude for our wonderful NHS through our #ThankYouNHSAdvent, which can be found on our social channels. Each day in the run up to Christmas, one of our team have been reaching out to say thank you and share their personal story of what the NHS means to them. The challenges also bought successes
Despite the many challenges brought on by the coronavirus, we’ve been amazed by the resilience and adaptability of healthcare teams, who have quickly implemented new ways of working to meet demand. Back in May Dr Shaun O’Hanlon, EMIS chief medical officer declared that “primary care is having its ‘online banking moment'”, and it’s clear that digital technologies have been embraced like never before in the face of this year’s pandemic. A fantastic response from you also enabled the contribution of patient data for vital COVID-19 research at the University of Oxford from more than 1,700 practices – tripling the amount of data available! The data has enabled researchers to understand the spread of COVID-19, including tracking when the virus peaks and helping to inform strategy on local social distancing and lockdown. Research is a key part of our business and we’re invested in working with major research partners to enable better care and improved population health.
Improving our training and support
Listening to your feedback we enabled the EMIS Now Live Chat functionality to help you achieve a fast and accurate resolution to your technical incidents. You can also keep up to date with any service issues and report if you've also been affected in one click by signing up for service alerts on EMIS Now.
Earlier this year our training team achieved gold accreditation with the Learning and Performance Institute (LPI), an international acclaimed standard which recognises and champions internal departments providing high-quality and industry-standard learning services to business.
This team commenced regular live online learning sessions via EMIS Now in October. Sessions so far have covered six topics on EMIS Web and two live sessions on how we’ll be supporting our users for the COVID-19 vaccination programme. The new normal
Reflecting on the changes to our ways of working following the pandemic we hosted 42 sessions as part of our two week virtual event EMIS Health Live: The New Normal. From seminars with industry experts to lunch & learns showing you how to get the most out of our solutions, you can rewatch all live sessions here.
Accelerating online access
Registrations to Patient Access escalated rapidly in March and April – with 650,000 new sign-ups during the pandemic peak, surpassing a total 10 million UK users. Patient Access allows patients to benefit from the convenience of digital services while staying with their existing NHS GP practice.
Delivering products to support your needs
2020 saw significant changes to our planned roadmap deliverables as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This meant our product and development teams had to quickly respond and re-priortise to meet changing needs. As a result, the first half of the year saw us focus predominantly on COVID-19, with the introduction of remote working at scale, enabling practices to deliver a digital first consultation models and the delivery of COVID-19 SNOMED CT coding and reporting. All of this whilst continuing in the background on our commitment to developing and launching the first wave of products on the EMIS-X platform. The final quarter of the year saw these plans being delivered, with the launch the first tool in our analytics suite.
Developed in response to customer demand for quicker, deeper data insights at a whole population level, the launch of Explorer from the EMIS-X Analytics suite offers exciting potential to improve healthcare services and support public health research by providing detailed data analysis at speed and scale.
The recently released Symphony 3.0 supports same day emergency care workflows and saw us as the first accredited supplier to support direct electronic appointment bookings from 111. Our clinical team worked closely with customers to input into the release, ensuring that our software offers the best end-user experience and supports better, safer, patient care.
